Shelterwood was founded more than thirty years ago to help families and teenagers build better, stronger and brighter lives. Attending our program allows parents to reconnect with each other and their other children while providing their struggling teen a place to safely address his or her own needs. We provide the safety and experience necessary for teens to address issues of depression, anger, substance use, risky behavior, anger, substance abuse, family discord, and school failure. Shelterwood is a dynamic atmosphere that wraps teens in love when they are at their worst. We surround students in a 24 hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week plan with people who love Jesus and want to have a positive impact on the lives of others. Among therapeutic boarding schools, Shelterwood also excels in its accredited academic program with school and qualified teachers on campus — where most therapeutic boarding schools use self-paced workbooks or computer classes. Our dedication to education is part of our desire to ensure that a child’s stay at Shelterwood helps them academically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally.

In addition to our Master’s level counselors, licensed teachers, and facility staff, there are twenty full-time mentors serving on-site throughout the year. It is simply our intent to make sure our teens are surrounded by people who will support and love them even when they are at their worst.

Our therapeutic approach is rooted in our desire to see real internal heart change through deep meaningful relationships with the teens. We are committed to helping the teens in our care work towards their goals and turn their lives around. Most of the troubled teens that we work with remain in contact with our staff for years after the program is complete. We have been invited to attend weddings, graduations, births, and even funerals as we stand alongside our students as they walk through life.
