Shelterwood

Richard A. Beach has dedicated the last 40+ years to active youth ministry with the past 27 years being dedicated to God’s vision for Doulos Ministries.  After two years on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ International, Richard served as Director of Youth Ministry at Colonial Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Missouri from 1969 to 1973.  Out of this ministry, called Icthus, campus Bible studies started at numerous Midwestern universities – many of these groups still exist today.  From 1973 to 1977, Richard continued to teach and train with organizations such as the Billy Graham Association, Young Christian’s Weekend at Silver Dollar City Ozark Theme Park, and Kanakuk Kamps.  Richard went on staff at Kanakuk Kamp in Branson, Missouri, where he served as Director from 1977 to 1985.  Between 1980 and 1990, Richard founded and directed K–Life, a discipleship ministry for teens located in ten cities around the country.

God gave Richard the vision for LeadTime in 1979 after spending three days on the back porch of his little house in Branson, Missouri. Later that next year the first seven guys came to live at the Beach’s home as the first LeadTime class—the start of what is now known as Doulos Ministries. The ministry of Shelterwood started after a friend approached Richard with a need for somewhere his daughter could get help. In 1980, Richard established Doulos Ministries, Inc., a program dedicated to disciple, train and place Christian servant–leaders to disciple youth and families. Through the programs LeadTime, Shelterwood and The Sky’s The Limit, Richard has led Doulos to touch the lives of thousands of Christian leaders and future leaders.

Richard lives with his wife of 34–years, Marsha, in Littleton, Colorado, where he enjoys spending time with people, playing golf, and playing with computers. Richard and Marsha have three children. Whitney and her husband Drew work in the Doulos business office, and live in Littleton with their children Alice, Liam, and Amelia.  Stacey is the receptionist at the Doulos business office.  Chad lives and works in Littleton.
