Therapy Designed to Improve Behavior and Build Character
Shelterwood provides a dynamic and dedicated staff who wrap teens in love when they are at their worst. Teens who are in our care attend individual counseling once a week and group counseling twice a week with a Masters-educated counselor. Teens progress through five periods of growth until they gain a new outlook and are ready to return to regular life at home. Outside of scheduled sessions, therapy takes place as teens relate with our team of college-educated Christian mentors and staff during class time, recreation, meals, and even chores. Our staff includes “big brothers and sisters” who live with the teens in the residence halls and humbly impart their lives out of a desire to positively affect the teens.
At Shelterwood Residents Learn to Serve Others As Well
Another prominent indicator of growth is an attitude of service and giving to others. Shelterwood heavily encourages community commitment and giving through serving. Shelterwood teens serve one another, serve the community and learn to serve the world. Service happens on campus; during local trips to shelters, churches, and parks; and in missions experiences such as teaching orphaned children in Mexico or Haiti. Helping teens grow means teaching them how to lift up others, and we make an effort to lead by example. The volunteer work is completely charitable and unpaid.
