Like every organization, Shelterwood has been affected by the COVID-19 outbreak and has been busy adjusting and honoring the ever-changing local and national (CDC) guidelines. While we remain open as an essential business and our staff is cleared to work, we have had to adjust our policies and procedures to meet the specific challenges posed by this pandemic.

Now Accepting New Teen Residents

The girls’ and boys’ residential houses at Shelterwood are now accepting applications for immediate admission to our program. If you’re considering placing your teen with us, please contact our Admissions Staff at 816.357.5350 and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Policy for Residential Staff and Students Returning to Shelterwood

Staff and students traveling back to Shelterwood by airplane will be quarantined before introducing them back into the main population. The minimum quarantine is either 14 days of showing no COVID-19 symptoms OR a negative COVID-19 test result from our local lab. All staff working with quarantined students and staff are required to follow a protocol including the use of gloves and surgical masks when in their presence.

Policy for Staff Living Off Campus

Shelterwood is an essential service, and off-campus staff are cleared to work and not covered by the stay-at-home order issued by the local government on March 22, 2020. We have trained the staff to limit possible exposure when off campus by honoring the stay-at-home order when not at work. We have requested staff living or going off of campus to wear a protective mask when out in public as recommended by the CDC and to practice social distancing. Any off-campus staff are required to contact their supervisor before coming to work if any symptoms of illness occur, including cough, fever, shortness of breath and body aches. We also require each staff member returning to campus to have their temperature taken before work begins.

Increased Cleaning of All Buildings

Our professional cleaning service company is disinfecting and cleaning our buildings weekly, with staff providing daily cleaning. We have also put into place rigorous hand washing protocols for staff and students to follow.

Message Updates for Parents

We are providing periodic COVID-19 status updates to all parents and other stakeholders at Shelterwood via email and through personal phone calls during normal therapeutic discussions regarding their teen.
