Shelterwood Academy is a Christ-centered teenage therapy school for youth struggling with mental, emotional and behavioral health challenges.
Eating well is part of our teenage therapy school’s integrative approach to wellness that helps students feed their need for belonging and self-discovery, lead a more balanced lifestyle, and feel their best – mind, body and spirit.
Residents enjoy our boarding school’s nutrition and dining program, featuring healthy options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our kitchen infuses locally-sourced foods with the freshest ingredients to maximize the full nutrients and flavor. Some herbs and spices are harvested by the students themselves as part of the science class in the Shelterwood greenhouse.
In addition, we cater to the special dietary needs of each resident within our teenage therapy school, paying close attention to food allergies/sensitivities and offering gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan options as well.
Our culinary team understands how the food we eat affects the physical and mental health of our residents. Blood sugar levels, gut health, digestion and weight all have an impact on the brain which controls focus, energy and mood. The key to optimal health is cooking with real foods and ingredients and avoiding refined sugars, artificial sweeteners and processed foods.
At Shelterwood Academy, every day is designed to bring out the best of every teen.
Shelterwood is the nation’s first inpatient residential treatment center to offer and facilitate the Brain Balance Program® on site. This cognitive training program strengthens and improves the areas of your teen’s brain involved with cognition, regulating mood and emotions, and overall well-being.
Shelterwood has earned the Joint Commission Seal of Approval. Our licensing and accreditation for academics and therapeutic services ensure excellence, accountability, and transparency.
