Shelterwood Academy offers a Christ-centered youth retreat for troubled teens with a variety of therapeutic camp activities and events designed for those with mental, emotional and behavioral health challenges.
A day at our youth retreat begins with our teens waking up with breakfast in the dining hall, then head to school on campus for a full day of learning, personalized programming and social enrichment.
During the school day, students receive instruction in each of their core classes in addition to their individualized therapies, Brain Balance training, and elective courses and interests – from music, art and culinary classes to automotive and trade/vo-tech skills.
After school, Shelterwood teens take part in group therapy, youth group and campus-wide therapy camp activities and events like activities: library, coed sports, swimming, archery, Nerf wars, scavenger hunts, working out in the fitness center, hiking, movie nights, arts & crafts, etc.
Weekends consist of doing fun things in the community like going to coffee shops, exploring the city, taking field trips, serving at local charities, as well as more therapeutic camp activities and events like camping, kayaking, fishing, etc. On Sundays, the kids go to church if they choose.
During our youth retreat for troubled teens there are often special events planned like the Color Run 5K, Parents’ Weekends, Kansas City Royals Baseball games, talent shows, trivia and game nights, Frisbee golf tournaments, guest speakers, spiritual retreats, community serve days and mission trips.
At Shelterwood Academy youth retreat for troubled teens, every day is designed to bring out the best of every individual.
