Shelterwood Academy is a Christ-centered therapeutic boarding school for teens struggling with mental, emotional and behavioral health challenges.
As a private therapeutic boarding school, Shelterwood Academy offers a comprehensive and nurturing educational environment for students to reach their full academic potential. Certified teachers at our accredited, on-campus high school offer coursework at a variety of academic levels, from remedial to advanced. Full year-round curriculum is taught by our caring teachers in small class sizes. Courses are available to suit a range of abilities and interests, helping students progress in their education toward graduation.
Teachers utilize a myriad of educational programs and resources that are relevant and up-to-date to meet the needs of today’s independent learners, including both live classes as well as online. An Individual Academic Plan is developed for each student that identifies strengths, challenges and specific academic goals to help move them forward in their academic career. Additionally, for those students that need opportunities to recoup high school credits due to failed coursework or excessive absenteeism, Shelterwood Academy offers credit recovery through our online programs.
Our faculty takes multiple factors into consideration when creating a student’s coursework and class schedule. Teachers adjust course loads and subject matter in order to best accommodate student’s clinical needs and set them up for academic success.
Shelterwood is the nation’s first inpatient residential treatment center to offer and facilitate the Brain Balance Program® on site. This cognitive training program strengthens and improves the areas of your teen’s brain involved with cognition, regulating mood and emotions, and overall well-being.
Shelterwood has earned the Joint Commission Seal of Approval. Our licensing and accreditation for academics and therapeutic services ensure excellence, accountability, and transparency.
