To John, Shelterwood’s family retreats fuel his passion for his work. “During these times, I see the impact that we make as a team on these families. We get to see families come back together,” he says. John received his Bachelor of Arts in Administration from California State University and his Master’s in Education from Walden University, with a focus on integrating technology into the classroom. He brings more than 20 years of experience in education, having taught in both public and private school settings. John also has a real passion for the teachers of Shelterwood and spends a great deal of time caring for and building this dynamic team.
Getting “sent to the principal’s office” takes on new meaning at Shelterwood: John welcomes students to his office frequently, for academic mentoring and more. As principal, John manages the teaching staff, oversees curriculum development, and manages classroom technology. He is proud of Shelterwood’s accreditation through Cognia, and John is also certified to serve as a lead evaluator for Cognia to assist in accrediting schools in and around Kansas City.
John isn’t the only Shelterwood team member in his family: his wife, Jane, works in the school office as the registrar. Outside of Shelterwood, John enjoys spending time with Jane and their two daughters. An avid sports fan, John especially enjoys cheering on Kansas City’s soccer team, Sporting KC.
